For over a century, preserving the taste of the sea in Galicia

We are a family business dedicated to the production of canned seafood. Since 1915, we have been working in Galicia, combining traditional methods with the demands of the modern food industry to bring you high-quality, safe, and flavorful canned goods.

1915

Originating at the Ojea dock (Cangas)

Our origins date back to 1915, when Pietro Montemerlo Botassi, from Genoa, founded a small salting company on the Ojea dock in Cangas (Pontevedra). Like many industrialists from Catalonia and Italy who settled in Galicia at the beginning of the 20th century, he chose our estuaries for the abundance of fish and the quality of its marine species.

Early 20th Century

Growth of the canning industry in Cangas

At the beginning of the 20th century, as many as 150 canning factories were founded in the area, 20 of them in the municipality of Cangas. This canning environment shaped the development of our company and established the region as a leader in seafood processing.

Mid-20th century

Start of the canning process

In the mid-twentieth century we began to produce canned blue fish and mussels in a traditional way, always maintaining care in the selection of raw materials and in each stage of the process.

1992

Modernization of the company

In 1992, Manuel Lago Paganini modernized the company with the incorporation of new refrigerators, combustion boilers and machinery, which allowed for the automation of several processes and the adaptation of production to the demands of the current food industry.

2011

New phase after the fire

In 2011, a fire at our original factory on the Ojea dock (Cangas) forced us to relocate our facilities. After a brief transition period in A Portela, we settled in the Castiñeiras industrial park in Bueu, where we built a plant of over four thousand square meters.

From our new plant we have made significant investments, maintaining and expanding jobs and reinforcing our commitment to the economic and social fabric of the region.

Our commitment
with the environment

As one of the leading canneries in the region, we have a strong commitment to the conservation and protection of our environment.

In August 2022 we installed 400 photovoltaic panels that generate about 180 kW of clean energy, which is equivalent to avoiding around 100 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Furthermore, we work exclusively with electric companies that obtain their energy from renewable sources, thus extending our commitment to reducing environmental impact beyond our own facilities.

Since 1915 we have continued working in Galicia to conserve the best of the sea.
